Welcome to Rail Safety - more sustainable journeys in Aotearoa New Zealand. Fly to Wellington during Rail Safety Week to discover more about the importance of rail and rail safety. This field trip is supported by NZTA The NZ Transport Agency/Waka Kotahi. The field trip is from 13-15 August. Enrol now.
IntroductionThere are many ways to travel around Aotearoa New Zealand. Our communities work much better when it is easy for people to travel. You may choose to walk, cycle, use a car, or use public transport such as buses and trains. Rail has an impact on how we travel even if we don't use trains. Trains travel through our communities and we all need to use level crossings safely. Trains also offer a sustainable form of public transport and move freight around our country. On this field trip you will look at the role of rail in moving people and freight. You will also see how to stay safe around trains. Meet Shelley the LEARNZ field trip teacher Watch the introductory video - on Vimeo. LocationYou will fly to Wellington where trains are a common form of public transport. You will see how technology has helped make the most of New Zealand's rail network and meet experts at New Zealand's Train Control Centre. You will travel in the cab of a train and talk with the train driver. You will follow the journey of freight and people and investigate ways to travel more sustainably and safely. |
