The Prepare Students section will get your class ready for the Geohazards virtual field trip!
The field trip experience is made up of a number of components which take place from Tuesday 28 April to Friday 1 May, 2015.
Monday 27 April |
Join Shelley and the ambassadors as they travel from Dunedin to Blenheim to begin the Geohazards field trip. |
Tuesday 28 April |
Drive to Kaikoura to see how this area has been shaped by tectonic forces and learn more about earthquakes, tsunami and landslides. |
Wednesday 29 April |
Travel to Seddon to see how this area was affected by the 2013 Cook Strait earthquakes and climb the hills behind Blenheim to find out more about landslides. |
Thursday 30 April |
There are many active landslides in New Zealand and landslides cost our country millions. See how landslides affect Nelson and find out what to do if their is an earthquake or tsunami warning. |
All components in the table below are updated daily during the field trip. They remain on this website and can be used after the date of the live field trip.
Classes can send an ambassador (small toy) on the field trip with the LEARNZ Field Trip teacher. Daily ambassador updates can be read by all enrolled classes.
Students can post their own questions on a Web Board to be answered by the field trip experts. The web board will be open for one month before the field trip until one month after the field trip. Once it has closed, the Ask-an-Expert link will go to a new page which has a selection of questions and answers from the field trip Web Board.
Students put questions live to experts who are on location during the field trip. Audioconferences can also be listened to live via the Internet audiostream or from a recording.
Shelley the LEARNZ Field Trip Teacher writes a detailed diary for students to read, accompanied by 10 captioned images and panoramas for each day of the field trip - including the travel day on Monday.
Students meet each expert involved in this field trip via a profile page and short video. Potential career and training paths can also be explored on these pages.
All website and field trip photos are available in one easy-to-use location, where students can browse and select to further their interest and learning.
Short, curriculum-rich videos with questions and answers are made on each day of the field trip and uploaded in the evening for viewing the following day. |
