Kia ora everyone

So here I am at Christchurch International Airport. We had a great day travelling from Andrew’s place all the way up in Kerikeri to here. We had to get two planes; a small plane from Kerikeri to Auckland, and then a big plane from Auckland to Christchurch.

I didn’t think I would like the small plane but it was actually a lot of fun. You could really feel all the bumps along the way – it was quite exciting, especially when we landed in Auckland. There is no door to the cockpit so you can see through the front window and watch as you land on the runway. I think it would be cool to be a pilot.

Kia ora everyone

Today we got to walk down one of the international air bridges. It was like walking through a west coast forest. There were even sounds of birds and stuff to make it seem more real. But even better was there was even a smell of the forest! It was a really neat experience. How nice for visitors coming into New Zealand for the first time to be welcomed into the country like that. Or for New Zealanders coming back to make them feel like they are truly home. What a thoughtful airport!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - I got my passport stamped - yay!

Kia ora everyone

Today we visiedt the international departure lounge. This is where all the passengers go who are heading overseas. We were watching people board a flight on Singapore Airlines. It is really interesting watching people at the airport! We saw some people who had to rush and almost missed their flight – wouldn’t that be annoying! I think if you are ever travelling on an aeroplane it would pay to get to the airport in plenty of time. Even if you are there early there is still a lot to see and do – such as the games arcade in the international departure lounge!

Kia ora everyone

I have learned so much this week about how an airport is run. I hope you have learned as much as I have. All the airport staff we have met have been really nice. They like to help people at the airport and make sure they have a good time whether they are flying in or flying out.

Spending time at the airport fire service today was fun. We rode in one of the big fire trucks with Cam Kenyon and he drove us down the runway. He had to get special permission of course so that no planes were trying to land!
