1.Travelling From New Zealand to Iceland
Follow the journey of Shelley and the ambassadors all the way from New Zealand to Iceland to begin the Natural Hazards field trip.
Wednesday 30 August
1. Iceland Geology
Meet Geologist Gro Birkefeldt Møller Pedersen at Reykjanes Peninsula and find out how Iceland formed.
2. Similarities between Iceland and New Zealand
Talk to volcanologist Ben Kennedy about the similarities and differences between Iceland and New Zealand.
3. A Quick Look at the Reykjanes Peninsula
Take a quick tour of the peninsula with Gro and see some of the amazaing sights that make up the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark.
4. Insuring Against Disaster
Travel back into Reykjavik to talk to Hulda from the Iceland Catastrophe Insurance Company and find out how to be more resilient to natural disasters.
Thursday 30 August
1. Journey to Heimaey
Take the ferry over to the only inhabited island in the Westman island group off the south coast of Iceland to explore an active volcano.
2. Climb Eldfell Volcano
Hike up Eldfell to enjoy the view over Heimaey and find out about more about the features of this volcano.
3. What Happened in 1973?
Talk to volcanologist Ben Kennedy about what happened to Heimaey in 1973.
4. A Personal Experience of the Eldfell Eruption
Meet Kristín from Eldheimar Museum and hear about her experience of the 1973 Eldfell eruption on Heimaey.
5. Viking story about the name of Westmanyaer - play in Vimeo to get the full 360 experience.

1. Iceland from below and back in time
Join Ben as he takes you on a 65 million year journey and discover how Iceland formed.
2. Eyjafjallajökull eruption - a personal story
Meet Thor a local resident who experienced the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Find out what happened during this eruption and how it affected those who were living in the area.
3. Detective digging
Go on an ash hunting mission with Ben to find evidence of the most recent Eyjafjallajökull eruption.
Saturday 1 September
4. An Iceland Road Journey
Drive from the southern end of Iceland to the north. Travel over 700 kilometres and pass some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

1. Volcanoes - all shapes and sizes
Join Ben in Mývatn to meet members of the volcano family and find out how different volcanoes formed. Hike up Hverfyall (Crater Mountain) and explore the volcanic landscape.
Monday 3 September
1. Double double toil and trouble
Explore the Hverir geothermal area south of Krafla and discover how these areas are created.
2. Volcanoes - not all bad
Enjoy a tourist hotspot in Iceland and look at the benefits of living in a volcanically active country.
Tuesday 4 September
1. Getting the most from geothermal energy
Meet Anette from Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland and find out how they harness and use geothermal energy.
2. Steam Power
Take a look around the Krafla Power Station and discover how heat from the earth can be transformed into electricity.
3. Magma Drillers
Meet Marlène, a rock engineer and find out about the technology used to drill into magma.
4. Lessons from Iceland
Talk to Marlène about how Icelanders cope with living in a geologically active country and think about the lessons we can learn from Iceland.
