I am Egbert the LEARNZ ambassador. I go on all the trips with Andrew and help look after the other ambassadors from your school.

Tēnā koutou
Well here we are in Christchurch for the Airport field trip. This is certainly a bit different to the field trips I usually go on. Normally I’m out and about in the forest exploring wildlife and that sort of thing. It’s hard to imaging right now what we are actually going to do over three days in one building!
Anyway, I’m sure it will be interesting and a lot of fun – especially with such a great bunch of ambassadors to keep me company!

What a cracker day we had today. We were lucky enough to get shown some of the things that get taken off people at customs. It was really interesting to find out why some items are not allowed to be brought into the country. In the photo you can see me in a pair of shoes made out of real snake skin! There was even a wallet to match and another wallet made out of elephant skin – poor elephant! It was also scary to see some weapons disguised as walking sticks, and even a dagger disguised as a comb!

Today we got to see the place where the big machines are that heat and cool the terminal. I didn’t have a clue how any of them worked but they sure looked impressive! Even after Mike explained how the system worked I was still a bit foggy about it all. One thing I do know is that it is an environmentally friendly system – so it definitely gets the big thumbs up from me!

Today we got to go to the airport fire service out near the airfield. It was so cool. We even got to have a ride in the biggest fire truck. Cam was lots of fun. We played hide and seek and I hid in his boots. He found me when I started groaning because of the smell!
It has been really cool here at Christchurch Airport this week. We have all had a great time and learned heaps. See you on another field trip soon!
