Meet Michel Dedual
Job:
Fisheries Scientist for the Department of Conservation.
Job description:
Provide scientific expertise to the management of the Taupō Fishery by undertaking research and analysing data to refine our knowledge of the aquatic ecology (with an emphasis on trout) and the anglers' behaviour.
Work background:
I have been sharing my time with fish since I was five when I got my first fishing rod from my grandfather...the rest is history.
Favourite part of job:
Designing experiments and exploring the results. I also really enjoy the interactions with fish and anglers on the terrain and writing articles about my work.
Least favourite part of job:
Paper work and dealing with people who don't want to understand. Realising from the inside that the quality of our water courses is rapidly decreasing and that there is no real push for reversing the trend.
Qualifications:
PhD in ichthyology and post-doctorate in fish physiology.
Interests outside work:
Food gathering, handwork, soccer, windsurfing, travelling.
