Hello everyone, tēnā koutou,
I am Egbert the LEARNZ ambassador. I go on all the trips with Andrew and help look after the other ambassadors from your schools.
I really love LEARNZ field trips about New Zealand's special places. I am looking forward to discovering more about ecological restoration with you, and exploring native forest to find out what could live there.
Best,
Egbert

Today we flew from Kerikeri to Auckland and then from Auckland to Christchurch. It was quite cloudy so me and my new mate Scaly the wētā spent most of the time chatting. I found out that we both love the beach!
I hope the weather is good this week. We have a lot of outdoor activities and it's helpful if the sun is shining more than it's raining! But I guess you can't help the weather so we'll just get stuck in no matter what!
Best,
Egbert

We had a great day today travelling north from Christchurch City. It was cool visiting Riccarton Bush but to be honest, I was glad to head north and leave the city behind us – it was way too noisy for me!
Today I enjoyed our visit to Tūhaitara Coastal Park. It is a coastal restoration project out by Woodend Beach. We met some students from Woodend School; one of several groups who are helping to restore the area. I am learning all the time how important it is for all of us to play a part in ecological restoration. When I get back home I’m going to look into getting involved myself!

I’m quite tired from today. We did a lot of walking and my legs aren’t as long as the others, so I had to run sometimes just to keep up. It’s okay for Scaly, he’s got six of them!
It was still an enjoyable day though. My favourite part was seeing all the new plants growing amongst the kānuka that weren’t there when grazing animals were present. And most of these plants had been spread by bird poo – isn’t nature amazing!

This field trip has been lots of fun. I have had a great time hanging out with David at Tiromoana Bush. Fraser was cool to be around today too. I enjoy chatting with people on field trips and learning from them. I sure have learned a lot about ecological restoration this week!
Scaly has also been lots of fun to be with during the field trip. It’s always nice to have another ambassador to share my experiences with. I hope we get to hang out again sometime.
See you on another field trip soon! Best,
Egbert
