Kia ora tātou
I am Tui from Papatoetoe East Primary School. This is my very first LEARNZ field trip and I am very excited to be involved. I am also proud to be representing our school, where our motto is participation, effort, and success. I'm sure all the tamariki involved will have a great time on the field trip.
Talk again soon,
Tui
Kia ora everyone,
Today we travelled all the way from Andrew’s place in Kerikeri to Christchurch. This is where we will be based for the next few days while we explore different places to do with getting ready for an emergency.
We went on two planes today - one from Kerikeri to Auckland and the other from Auckland to Christchurch. Then we drove to Christchurch City. You can understand why I am a little weary!
Talk tomorrow,
Tui
Hi everyone,
It was a very interesting day today. We went to the beach to talk about tsunami and flooding. Then we went to a place called Redcliffs to talk about earthquakes and landslides. It was amazing to see where a landslide had happened right next to the school there. An earthquake caused the landslide back in 2011 and sadly the school is no longer used. We also went to a place called the Port Hills to see where a really big wild fire happened earlier this year. Gosh, Christchurch has had some really bad luck lately!

Hi everyone,
Today we went to Governors Bay School. I was proud when students from my school asked questions on the web conference this morning. Andrew thought they all did a great job too!
I learned a lot about being prepared for a natural hazard emergency today. The key is having a plan. Not all of you are as lucky as me – I can just fly away from some disasters! It is also a good idea to have an emergency kit. Include things like water, food, and a first aid kit. And don’t forget about your pets!
Catch you tomorrow,
Tui
Hi everyone,
Today was the last day of the field trip. I learned about some cool apps that can be helpful during an emergency. I also met some people from Christchurch City Council.
It has been lots of fun hanging out with Andrew and the other ambassadors. I hope I can go on another field trip some time. I’m sure you have all enjoyed the field trip too and learned lots. I will have some stories to share with you next week!
See you then,
Tui
