Social sustainability is about creating places that promote wellbeing, by understanding what people need from the places they live and work. CRL want to contribute to social sustainability across Auckland.
Part of CRL’s social sustainability strategy looks at employment, training, and development opportunities for people who are having difficulty finding work success. The progressive employment programme takes rangatahi and gives them training and opportunities to succeed in the construction industry. There is also the potential for them to be employed by Link Alliance.
The Link Alliance's workforce development programme supports Mana Whenua, Māori, Pasifika and rangatahi workers to map out career pathways and get industry training and qualifications. As well as creating good outcomes for individual workers, workforce development also benefits the Link Alliance and the wider construction industry. It increases diversity and the number of skilled people in the workforce.
The Link Alliance has a school engagement programme. It is designed to share the CRL project with students and teachers and describe career opportunities available in the construction and infrastructure industry. The programme focuses on engaging young Māori, Pasifika, and women, who are underrepresented within these industries.
Students and teachers hear from Link Alliance staff and attend a guided tour of one of the project's construction sites.
