Meet Colin Vickery
Job:
Control Service Manager (Northern).
Job description:
Managing the Northern Train Control Team (the people who look after the trains and staff who work on the tracks between Marton and Otiria (Far North).
Work background:
Various roles within the Rail Industry, started off as a Signal Maintainer after leaving school, then a Train Controller and various other roles.
Favourite part of job:
Making a difference and getting people and freight home on time, getting to see your plan work out.
Least favourite part of job:
When accidents happen and you have to manage an unpleasant situation.
What I am working on now:
Improving service levels, improving how we do things and managing a great team of people.
Qualifications:
- New Zealand and Australian Diplomas in Business Management
- Qualified Electrical Service Technician
Interests outside work:
- Crisis counselling
- Coaching – mentoring
